This Labor Day weekend is always a mix of joy and nostalgia for me—it’s my dad’s birthday weekend, which used to mean cookouts, music, dancing, and the legendary Caribbean Day Parade in Brooklyn. Now that he’s on the other side of heaven and I’m living in Maryland, I’m still honoring him by roasting corn and holding tight to the memories.
